Meeting Text
The business of the meeting was stated in the circular from the Chairman to all members dates Sept 1st. To consider an application to the Sheriff for a licence for premises for the slaughter of horses and other animals to be established in a field within the Parish of Abernyte and to take such action in the matter as may be deemed advisable.
The following letter from the petitioners letter of the 1st Aug was read:
In the petition of John Lindsay, 152 Hawthorne Place Lochee Road, Dundee to the Sheriff of the County of Perth for the necessary licence under the statute 13 & 14 Victoria Chap 92 to Slaughter horses and other animals not intended for butcher meat, applicable to the field formerly known as the Tinkers Wood at the north west corner of Pitkindie in the Parish of Abernyte.
A letter was also read from Mr John Falconer agent for Lochton of date 5th Sept.
Mr Playfair stated that he proposed to grant a lease to the applicant for ten years with a break at five of about an acre of land in the field referred to for the erection of a building, the rest of the six acres to be kept in his own hand.
The proposed premises would be 150 yards from the road and over 500 years form any dwelling.
It was unanimously agreed that apart from other considerations, the Local Authority have not sufficient evidence as to the possibility of contaminated water from the proposed premises reaching the burn which supplies the houses at Whitehills.
Until satisfied on this point they must object to the granting of the licence craved.
The Chairman was instructed to bring this point before the Sheriff and if granted to call another meeting on a suitable day.
