An interesting epoch in the history of the parishes of Abernyte and Longforgan was the formal opening yesterday of a pretty little school situated on the braehead at the former Village.
The Department recently condemned the old school of Abernyte. A new structure was therefore compulsory and as Longforgan School board was interested in this matter owing to the straggling nature of the parish a joint school was erected.....
Mr Charles Gourlay, the chairman of the Longforgan School Board said that they had entered into the project most heartily and while he though both parishes had made a good bargain in having joint school, still he had a feeling that Abernyte had got the best of it!.....
On the motion of Mr Milroy, a hearty vote of thanks was awarded to the chairman.
No one can fail to admire the architectural beauty of the new school. It is built of local red pressed brick, covered with green Westmoreland slates. The interior is quite as attractive as the exterior.
The school is seated for 150 and on of the principle features is a band of green linoleum around each room above the dado intended for the use of pupils in freehand drawing.
