A farmer, Alexander Lawson, Wellbank Farm, Knapp and James Lawson, Hilton of Knapp were charged in Perth Sheriff Court yesterday with driving or causing to be driven thirty sheep on the road between Knapp Farm and Longforgan and Dundee - these places being in the scheduled districts to which the foot-and-mouth disease orders applied. They had done this it is alleged after having obtained a movement license from Hugh Ferrier V S to take the sheep from the farm by Abernyte to Inchture Railway Station and thence by rail to Dundee.
Mr Hunter appeared on behalf of both the accused and tendered a plea of guilty. The day on which the offence was committed, he said, was the first day on which the new orders came into force and that the accused had no desire to break the law.
Sheriff Boswell imposed a fine of £7 with the option of 21 days imprisonment on Alex Lawson and a fine of £3 or ten days on James Lawson.
