By the death yesterday of Mr Alan Hynd, Abernyte lost its oldest inhabitant and the agricultural community of the Carse of Gowrie has lost a kenspeckle figure. Although he had reached the age of 87 Mr Hynd was actively engaged in his business of grazier and flockmaster till two days ago.
Born in Auchtermuchty he went to the Carse at an early age. For some years he was employed at Middlebank then the largest holding with 11 pairs of horses. Then for many years he resided at West Mill while managing the farms of Charleston, Boyne, West Mill and Middlebank. Subsequently he took over the tenancy of South Ballo Farm on the Ballindean Estate. On his retiral from that farm 30 years ago he took up the business of sheep feeding which he followed until his death.
