Warrant to [David Foheringham], laird of Baledgarno for two free fairs to be
held at the village of Baledgarno
Anent a petition presented to the king's majesty and estates of parliament by David Fotheringham of
Baledgarno and Elizabeth Gray, lady Baledgarno, his spouse, showing that the town and village of
Baledgarno, within the sheriffdom of Perth, belongs to the petitioners in property, and it is a place well
peopled and of considerable resort, being seated upon the king's highway that leads from Perth to
Dundee, midway between the said burghs, and more than six miles distant from either of them, or any
other burgh and so is a very convenient place for having yearly markets and fairs there, as is usual in
such cases, for the good of the place and all his majesty's lieges; humbly therefore, supplicating that
warrant might be granted to the petitioners for two fairs yearly to be held at the said village. The king's
majesty and estates of parliament, having heard and considered the foresaid petition, do hereby give and
grant to the said David Fotheringham of Baledgarno and Elizabeth Gray, lady Baledgarno, his spouse,
their heirs and successors, the liberty and freedom of two yearly free fairs, the one to be and begin upon
13 June, to be called St David's fair,2 and the other to be and begin upon 29 September, to be called St
Catherine's fair,3 and do give and grant to them the tolls and customs of the said two fairs to be uplifted
by them, with all other profits, dues, liberties and privileges pertaining to or accustomed in any other
fairs.
